FAQs
Does the insurance cover also cover Covid19 (“Corona”) illnesses and quarantine costs?
Yes. All benefits of the international health insurance also apply in the event of a proven Covid19 illness abroad, including follow-up costs such as hotel costs for quarantine or the resulting return travel costs (e.g. flight). Please note that there is no insurance coverage for travel to areas with level 5 and 6 travel warnings. Current information on travel warnings can be found here.
Who is LAMIE direkt?
LAMIE direct is an Austrian InsurTECH based in Linz. Our vision is to make insurance easy, transparent and, above all, customer-friendly. We offer our customers modern insurance service through digital solutions, easy-to-understand insurance products and, if desired, comprehensive personal advice.
In relation to the insurance product offered, LAMIE direct acts as a coverholder (insurance agent with authority to conclude and claim claims for the insurer) and is entitled to offer and conclude the insurance product for the insurer. There is no such obligation to the insurer or to other insurers.
How are the insurance days calculated?
For each started day of travel abroad, the daily premium stated on your policy will be charged using your A1 phone number. The period 00:00 to 23:59 according to Central European Time (CET) applies as a day.
What if my cell phone is stolen while on vacation?
If your phone is stolen, we recommend that you immediately block the phone with your A1 customer service. In this case, please also contact LAMIE customer service by e-mail or by telephone on +43(0)50664 60260, as a block also deactivates the insurance cover.
Do I pay the same premium for each country?
There are two travel zones for travel coverage: Europe plus. Mediterranean countries and worldwide. Within one travel zone, you pay the same premium for each country included.
How often can I use the travel protection? How long am I insured abroad?
Travel protection can be used for any number of trips. The insurance cover is valid for a maximum of 90 days per trip. From the 91st day the protection is disabled.
Will I be charged if I don’t travel?
You only pay for the insurance days that are actually used, so you will not incur any costs with the travel protection without an activated insurance day.
Do I have to turn on my smartphone every day during my trip?
No, after you have activated your phone abroad once abroad, you will receive confirmation of the activation of the insurance cover after 3 hours. You can then leave your cell phone switched off until you return.
How do I pay for travel protection?
The insurance days used are conveniently paid for using your A1 phone number.
How do I know if Travel Protection is on?
After you have connected to a foreign network once ("roaming") and have not logged back into the Austrian network within 3 hours, the insurance cover will be activated automatically and you will receive an e-mail from us informing you that your cover is active .
Do I have to consume data to activate the insurance cover?
It is not necessary to use mobile data ("data roaming") to activate travel protection. It is sufficient if your switched-on mobile phone connects to the foreign network once.
Is cancellation insurance included?
No, since the protection is only activated when you leave Austria and is only billed at this point in time, no cancellation insurance is included in the travel protection.
How can I cancel the travel protection?
The travel protection can be canceled at any time and without giving reasons by sending an email to kundenservice@lamie-direkt.at. The termination will be carried out immediately on the next working day. If you want to reactivate LAMIE travel protection at a later date, you can do so at any time.
How is travel protection activated?
The prerequisite for using the travel protection is prior registration for the insurance program with your A1 language tariff number.
As soon as you log into a foreign network ("roaming"), travel protection is activated. Your insurance will be deactivated when you return to Austria and log into your home network. It is important that you take your mobile phone with you and switch it on once when crossing the border (or after landing when traveling by plane), otherwise we will not be able to tell that you are abroad. Data roaming does not have to be activated at any time.Do I have to announce my planned trips in advance?
Travel protection is real-time insurance. You do not have to tell us in advance when, how long or where you are going. The protection applies from the time your mobile phone dials into the foreign network or you return to your home network.
As a result, you don't pay unnecessary premiums if you don't make your trip or travel home earlier than planned. But you also don't risk staying abroad without insurance cover if you unexpectedly stay longer. Your travel insurance allows you full flexibility.
How does the family tariff work?
When you take out the family tariff, you have the option of registering an additional adult and up to 3 children as insured persons. By children we mean your children and the children of your spouse, registered partner or common-law partner if they are under the age of 21 (including foster and adopted children).
The basic requirement for insurance cover is that these people travel with you, since your A1 phone number is the trigger for insurance cover ("roaming").Can I also use travel protection if I am in a border region and my mobile phone frequently switches to the international network?
The prerequisite for offsetting the insurance cover is that you have dialed into a foreign network once and have not returned to Austria within 3 hours. The insurance cover is only activated after 3 hours from logging into a foreign network ("roaming"). Constant switching between the home network and a foreign network does not lead to activation.
Do I have to use travel protection every time I travel?
No if you wish, you can deactivate travel protection individually at the beginning of each trip. By means of a confirmation e-mail that you will receive from us after 3 hours of constant connection to the foreign network, you will be given the opportunity to deactivate the protection for the respective trip using the link provided. In this case, the insurance cover is deactivated for the entire trip. After returning to Austria, the protection is automatically reactivated in the same way on the next trip.
I would like to change my personal data or insured persons in my travel insurance. How does it work?
Simply send an e-mail to kundenservice@lamie-direkt.at with your respective data that should be changed. Our customer service will then process your change requests. Please note that changes to co-insured persons (e.g. entering or exchanging a co-insured person) only become valid on the following day at 00:01 Austrian time zone (Central European Time - CET). This means that if you are on a trip, the coverage will only come into effect at that point.
